Barcelona: Port Aventura

by Seun

Port Aventura is a holiday leisure resort that confines a variety of typical holiday activities onto one site found in the Province of Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain. The idea for a leisure park was conceived by the Disney rivals, the Tussaud Group (responsible for Madame Tussaud’s, Lego Land and Thorpe Park) who on May 1, 1995, having put plans into action, opened the gates to the Port Aventura for the first time.

The theme park is essentially designed to provide an alternative to the typical family holiday destination, whatever that is, offering the convenience of the following popular holiday entertainment all under one roof:

Port Aventura Park: the main constituent of the resort is the theme park which currently boasts 7 rollercoasters (the eighth still under construction) and a plethora of other less fiendish rides. The park is divided into 6 geographically themed zones: Mediterránia, Polynesia, China, México, Far West and most recently, Sesamo Aventura.

The Aquatic Park: this water park claims to provide an unforgettable experience and, in very truth, it does offer a truly complete water park experience. Set in 3.4 hectares of land and engulfed by a huge range of exotic plants, the Aquatic Park has various slides and rides to be made the most of. The thematic coating sets this water feature in the Caribbean, complete with reggae music and themed dining.

The Costa Dorada Beach Club: a short bus ride away, on the coast, Park Aventura’s beach side club is a fully equipped club offering towels, hammocks and pools. Its season, however, is somewhat shortened to the summer months only.

The Golf Club: set plain in the fresh air of the Mediterranean, the golfing experience at Port Aventura is certainly comparable with Marbellan golfing which is now so well known for combining golf and tourism. In the area of the Costa Dorada there are several golf courses, 3 of which belong to Port Aventura.

Port Aventura of course also has a range of accommodation within the compound. 4 themed hotels (in concordance with the theme park) and a caravan park cater for a variety of desirable experiences.
